Bishop Alton “Tony” Newsome
Bishop Newsome came to Bibleway Holiness Church through his sisters. He came with the intention, as he put it, to help Bibleway. Upon arriving and hearing the Word, he found out that he was the one who needed help. He was baptized and received the Holy Ghost in 1979. He was called to the ministry over 30 years ago in 1987.
Bishop Newsome quickly “clicked” with Bishop William Faison. He spent many hours with him, receiving teaching that little did he know, would lead to him becoming pastor of Bibleway. He seemed to have an instant love for the church. He observed Bishop Faison and began working around the church. His love was cleaning the church. He felt that the house of God should always look its best. Bishop Newsome has performed many jobs and duties over the years at Bibleway, which include but are not limited to, Sunday School teacher, director of the Men’s choir, an Anniversary group leader, and the assistant to Bishop Faison, a position he officially held for more than 20 years.
Bishop Newsome married Evangelist Beverly Newsome in 1980. They have one daughter, Shauneka and one grandson, Rashaun. Bishop Newsome was a truck driver for Howell’s Motor Freight for 18 years. He often worked two jobs to take care of his family. Most recently he was the warehouse manager for Influence Haircare until he resigned to become the full-time caregiver for Bishop Faison.
Bishop Newsome was very close to his mother, the late Sis. Barbara Holt. She taught him so many things and one of the greatest was the love for people. He loves people and he loves doing whatever he can for them. He has often gotten out of his bed to answer the call of someone in need.
Bishop Newsome’s vision is to see the unsaved come to Christ and to reignite those who have already chosen Christ as their Lord and Savior to fervently serve the Lord. His desire is to see the people of God walk in righteousness and to be ready to meet the Lord when he returns.
